Shades is the NYC based DJ/producer duo comprised of Thomas Matera and Julien Johnson. The past three years the two college students have been working on improving their craft, style, and creativity, while developing a unique sound within dance music. After experimenting with the different styles that encompass the genres of dance music, Thomas and Julien decided to blend EDM and Pop into their own unique sound. With their uplifting melodies and energetic harmonies, they try to capture a variety of emotions that will create a unique experience.
Thomas and Julien have been friends long before they ventured into producing electronic music. Growing up in the same neighborhood, Thomas and Julien played on the same baseball team from a young age and were members of a band together. They’ve come a long way from those days with support from artists like The Chainsmokers, Mako, Gazzo, Milk n Cooks and others on social media, as well as live performances, opening for Gryffin and Pierce Fulton. Their repertoire of remixes includes official remixes for artists including Mako, Betty Who, Two Friends, XYLĂ, Win and Woo, and XY&O, among many others and have received support from music blogs and sites on multiple platforms, including multiple Hype Machine chart appearances, with a #2 finish on the Popular Charts. With a wealth of experience behind them and a growing fan base, the future is bright for this young duo.
